в сети, например ATM, - ситуация, когда из-за многочисленных повторных передач успешно проходит лишь малая часть трафика либо сеть вообще "встаёт". Отказ подобного вида часто происходит в сетях, где коммутаторы не имеют адекватных и эффективных механизмов буферизации, дополненных интеллектуальными средствами отбрасывания пакетов или средствами обратной связи и контроля заторов
